I forgot how much fun it was to work with raw canvas! This is a work in progress as of last evening, but I haven’t learned yet all the ways to control where the paint goes (if that is even possible), so you never know how this will turn out. We’ll see!
Southampton Artists Association
Excellent turn out this year for the Southampton Artists Association Winter Exhibit reception. So happy to have my “Tulips in January” and “Winter Hydrangeas” part of the show!
"Tea for You" Series
I got a little stuck on painting teapots and didn’t realize how many I had. So…here is my teapot series. They are all 10” x 10” acrylics on canvas except for the light blue/green teapot on the pink background. That one is my first ever attempt at painting with oils. It was fun and different. I have a lot of work to do as there is so much I don’t know. But…that makes it exciting!
"Lilla"
This painting is named “Lilla” because I was reading a book about Italy while painting these lilacs. I really like the colors in this one. It might be my all-time favorite (so far).
“Lilla” 18”W x 24” H Acrylic on Canvas
Tulips
Back to the supermarket for these beautiful yellow tulips! I love having an excuse for buying myself flowers!
I am working on incorporating things I am learning in this painting, including using a dark background behind the side where the light is coming from.
I really like this one!
Winter Hydrangeas
Could not resist buying these supermarket hydrangeas and then having fun putting them to canvas. I am painting just about every day and enjoying every minute!
For Renee
This painting is for my niece, Renee. It is a painting of her over a collage of pieces of a map from the Boston area. We both love Boston so I thought it would be fitting to put her portrait over our favorite place!
The Mailboxes on Display
These two mailbox paintings now on display at Southampton Town Hall.
Happy Holidays!
Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild 5x7 Show
These two sold yesterday at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild 5x7 Show!
Local Scene - Southampton Shores
We saw this cluster of mailboxes on a recent bike ride. Couldn’t resist capturing them in a painting!
Local Scene - Towd Point
This painting was inspired by the sense of community at Towd Point. It is a very beachy area surrounded by creeks, harbors, and bays. Residents bring their kayaks and canoes down to the launch area and I captured them leaning against a telephone pole.
Towd Point - 20” x 16” acrylic on primed canvas
This painting sold from a post on instagram. Many thanks DH!
Painted Pear
Taking a workshop with Sue Riger — The Painted Pear. I am learning ALOT, including how to paint over a collage (photo below) and how to paint with a palette knife — the palette knife is not easy!
Retired!
Second day of retirement. So far….so good!
Countdown
Six Days
Wow! Six days to retirement. Thank you to my friends for the perfect send off!
Retirement Plans
After 38 years of working full time, most recently as a project manager, I am looking forward to putting the plans in place for my retirement, spending more time with my family, and exploring art. Can’t wait!
Photo with my daughter
Thank you Wyanne!
I have been taking classes with Wyanne (wyanne.net) and exploring new techniques, including using acrylic skins and painting with fluids on raw canvas. Her classes are recorded and online with a live Zoom session once per month. Thank you Wyanne! I am learning so much. What an inspiration!
Getting close to finishing this one using acrylic skins!

Semi-Abstracts
I have been working lately on semi-abstracts with a floral twist!
Fluids!
I am having fun exploring painting with fluids. I am using watercolor in interesting ways and combining it with alcohol ink and fluid acrylics!
